Bebras Challenge

Welcome to the New Zealand Bebras Challenge!

This challenge tests your logic and computational skills through different fun and challenging problems. It is a fun and rewarding challenge that introduces you to computational thinking. It lets you solve problems using your logic and computational thinking skills. Yes, you have them!

Participants DO NOT need any computer programming ability, but the competition helps identify students’ computer programming potential and encourages students to solve real-world problems. 

You can visit official resources to prepare for it.

Challenge Format

Online at home. You can use a pen, paper and a calculator.

Year Groups and Scores

The Bebras challenge is available for six divisions (in NZ year):

🌟 Year 3-4
🌟 Year 5-6
🌟 Year 7-8
🌟 Year 9-10
🌟 Year 11-13

PGA reserves the right to interpret all competition and course arrangements.

Each participant gets 45 minutes to answer a set of multiple-choice questions that focus on computational and logical thinking skills.

What is computational thinking?

It's a set of problem-solving skills that software engineers use to write programs and apps.

 

These skills include components like pattern recognition algorithm design, data analysis or abstraction.

Scoring System

Each task you solve is given a category: A, B or C.


These categories all contain 5 tasks and they increase in difficulty.


You start with a set amount of bonus points and can gain or lose points as follows:
