The British Physics Olympiad is a charitable trust overseen by a committee of trustees. It was initiated in 1979, and has been used as a qualifier for the selection of the UK Physics Team for the International Physics Olympiad since 1983.

The Intermediate Physics Challenge is a single, one-hour paper that is suitable for Year 10-11 (Grade 9-10) students.
The paper includes traditional problem-based set of questions that aim to test students knowledge and understanding of basic physics principles.
The paper is suitable for students who have studied GCSE Science + Additional Science or GCSE Physics or equivalent.
Unlike the Intermediate & Senior Physics Challenge, Online Challenge is a new activity that is a preliminary challenge to the IPC&SPC, and students can take both the Intermediate & Senior Physics Challenge (Online).

Why Participate?
-
Enhance Your Profile and Boost University Applications
The BPhO is highly valued for UK university applications in science and engineering, especially physics. About 70% of participants are admitted to Oxford's Physics and Engineering programs. Its questions are similar to those in Oxford and Cambridge interviews, helping students prepare for both exams and interviews.

-
Improve Academic Skills
Participating in the BPhO boosts students' academic skills through flexible physics application and enhances competitiveness for physics program applications.

-
Enhance Competitive Background
Participating in the BPhO enhances application success and deepens physics knowledge and problem-solving skills. In today's competitive job market, a strong competition background like the BPhO is key to standing out.
