The First Mathematics Challenge (FMC) has been specifically created to give all pupils in Years 3 and 4 the opportunity to take part in this Challenge.
The questions will encourage your pupils to think outside the box and approach problems in a logical manner.

18:00 - 18:45, 18 June 2023 (NZ time)
Closing date of registering: 4 June 2023
Fees for the FMC is $30 per student
Or $10 per student, if registering in a group of 3.
*Must be paid in a group (total $30), do not pay $10 seperately.
Eligible year groups: Year 3 and Year 4
Exam: Online

What is MA?
The Mathematics Association (MA) is a professional society for mathematics educators in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1871 and has a long-standing tradition of promoting the teaching, learning, and enjoyment of mathematics at all levels.
One of the core aims of the MA is to promote public understanding of mathematics and its importance in society. MA hosts two Primary Mathematics Challenge annually FMC & PMC.


When is FMC?
The Challenge will take place on 18 June 2023.
The Challenge paper
There will be a total of 20 multiple choice questions, students will start with easy questions to encourage them in their own ability and gradually get harder throughout the Challenge.
Students will have 45 minutes to complete all questions.
You can use as much scrap paper as they wish but no calculators, rulers or other aids may be used.
